Marqeta is a new sort of discount/rewards system which utilizes a pre-paid card for spending money at selected merchants. The site uses Fakt webfonts, customized with the typeface’s alternate forms as the default. Most of the symbols used on the site come from FF Dingbats 2.0, though they are served as images, not webfonts.
The alternates are not activated in the browser, but are already incorporated as default forms in the font. If one doesn’t need both variants, that’s definitely a more bullet-proof method. Assumably, they approached the foundry to have the fonts customized (OurType’s EULA does not allow to do such modifications yourself).

How were they able to activate the Stylistic Set 1 of Fakt?
I tried with
-moz-font-feature-settings:"onum" 1, “kern” 1, “liga” 1, “ss01” 1;
-moz-font-feature-settings:"onum=1, kern=1, liga=1, ss01=1";
-ms-font-feature-settings:"onum" 1, “kern” 1, “liga” 1, “ss01” 1;
-o-font-feature-settings:"onum" 1, “kern” 1, “liga” 1, “ss01” 1;
-webkit-font-feature-settings:"onum" 1, “kern” 1, “liga” 1, “ss01” 1;
font-feature-settings:"onum" 1, “kern” 1, “liga” 1, “ss01” 1;
but it doesn’t work.
I forwarded your question to OurType. Will post here when we get a reply.
