Elaine Lustig Cohen designed several book jackets for Meridian Books, as well as other collateral, such as this moving notice. Like her first husband, Alvin Lustig, who passed away in 1955, she favored strong, modernist concepts. Elaine’s work, however, often used type as illustration. Here, a stencilized Volta acts as a train.

URW’s digital version of Volta includes a Stencil cut of the Bold. It exhibits a different placement of the bridges than Cohen’s M – which appears to be only loosely modeled on Volta, see the less pronounced bracketing and the wider center apex. Caslon’s Ionic Expanded comes close, but is a tad wider.
Nice. Volta looks so good as a stencil!
