This poster was made as a student project for a figure drawing class at the Kunsthochschule Mainz. For the design I wanted to use approaches similar to those found in free drawing:
• lines of different quality and width, which translates to contrasting weights of typefaces
• a focus / weighting in the composition, with a single letter as an eye-catcher
• a moment of coincidence, as it can be induced when drawing without looking, or with the non-dominant hand. A possible typographic analogy is superimposition, which leads to uncontrollable patterns.
SangBleu Kingdom worked perfectly with these approaches because it has a lot of weights and quite unconventional shapes. To complement it, I chose Euclid Flex from the same foundry. It should appear calm and informative. The poster design was adapted for my catalog of nude drawings.
