A simple but fun cover for the 1983 cumbia record, El Baile Del Año (The Dance of the Year), featuring a strong palette of primary colors and an eclectic mashup of typefaces. Most of the heavy typographic lifting is done with some all caps Franklin.
It seems there was a shortage of R’s in whatever incarnation of Microgramma the designer was working with (presumably a sheet of dry transfer letters), because some P’s were modified to make new R’s in ‘CENTRO AMERICA’.
The back cover has an unusual Art Deco-ish multi-line typeface similar to Zeppelin but definitely different.

The multi-line face also appears on several of the flyers designed by Buddy Esquire in the early 1980s. It recently came up on FontID.co. Contributor Sorval pointed out that it appears under the name Brawley in the Solotype Catalog of 4,147 Display Typefaces from 1992. This resource doesn’t mention any designers or sources, and it’s possible that Brawley is not the original name. I agree with Sorval that it’s most likely a dry-transfer face, possibly from a smaller manufacturer. I’ve started a typeface entry under Solotype’s name.
