Rock Paper Pixel was an exhibition held by The Lettering Arts Trust at Snape Maltings.
The aim of this exhibition is to demonstrate that an enquiring mind and a fertile imagination are essential ingredients to producing new, innovative, and inspiring work in all fields of the lettering arts. While crafts skills and a knowledge of the history of lettering and design are essential to good practice, if all we do with them is replicate established conventions then little or no progress is made and creativity becomes stagnant.

The exhibits assembled show what can be achieved with lettering through the application of imagination, design and craftsmanship. They demonstrate the shifts in the development and history of lettering across various media.
The catalogue, designed by Mark Noad, has the feeling of a working document and guides the reader through three sections – ‘Influence, inspiration, and example’, ‘Experimentation, innovation and mistakes’, and ‘Play & design (& joy)’. Two-colour stitched binding with clear glue on the spine. Heavily illustrated and typeset using Hawkland, De Worde, and Bliss.
