Tolis Voskopoulos – Einai to kati pou menei album art

Motter Ombra goes to Hellas! Like in the previously posted Use of Cyrillic Ombra, these Greek characters are not part of an official language extension, but were accomplished by cleverly repurposing and modifying Motter’s Latin glyphs.

Omicron (ο), eta (η), final sigma (ς), and upsilon (υ) were the easy part. They could be replaced by their Latin look-alikes o, n, s, and v, with tonos marks made from periods. Lambda (λ) and kappa (κ) required more creativity. These were made by flipping y and cropping k. Sigma (σ) is o with added stroke, and pi (π) two connected stems of unknown origin. Ombra’s T and B were considered inappropriate for standing in for Tau (Τ) and Beta (Β), and were patched up from lowercase t and b, respectively, with some supporting bits. And boom: Τόλης Βοσκόπουλος!

Unknown Letraset wrangler: My hat is off to you. Contemporary font users: That’s not how it is done anymore. Today, there’s a considerable and steadily growing number of fine typefaces with Greek support to choose from.
