The Ryfflihof was built in 1928, as one of the first big department stores in the Swiss capital of Bern. Today it’s one of Coop’s five flagship stores in the country. This vintage shopping bag (1970s?) features tightly spaced Herkules, a typeface that originated at the Swiss foundry Haas in 1899. The message in Swiss German translates to “you have to go to Ryfflihof [in order to get these things]”. The bag design itself is repeated in the illustration, but the crop avoids a continued Droste effect.

In an article in Tagblatt, Rosmarie Kiefer is portrayed as the first woman to have designed the poster for the annual Olma fair in 1975. She was 88 years old when the article was published in 2017. Rosmarie-Susanne Kiefer ran a graphic design studio in Basel, together with her husband Walter Kiefer-Haeflinger.
