House of Cans’ latest in-house collaboration, this time with print designer David Pearson, was released into the World on Thursday 16th May, 2019.
The designs use very newly-released type from the Commercial Classics range, for which – fortunately for all concerned – David was granted a test license. Needless to say we’re delighted to be among the first to showcase this fantastic typographic style. Cans have been designed to be displayed in pairs and the oversized, expressive type was hand-printed using rubber stamps. To mark the release, House of Cans have made a donation to the St Bride Foundation, whose collection of original punches, matrices and metal type helped to inform the designs of Commercial Classics.
David is a close friend of House of Cans and, in addition to his ludicrously low-key listing in Debrett’s in past years, has also worked with Penguin Classics, playing a key role in the publisher’s resurgence, as well as provided typographic content for both Wes Anderson and Ridley Scott productions.
