Center on Halsted tasked sparc with creating a captivating and informative invitation for their Donors Circle Dinner. The evening commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots by speaking to the leaders and voices of the community — what they have said and done in the past, present and will plan to do in the future.
We found a font in Sharp Type’s Sharp Sans Display No.2 conveying elegance, power, clarity and all those wonderful Lubalin-esque ligatures mirroring the character of this special event and the group it appeals to.
The Circle Dinner invited Center on Halsted’s Top 100 Donors to the table not only as a thank you, but to continue planning for the community’s future and inspire further leadership among this special group. The invitation cover reflects this coming together through 100 individual yet linked circles working together to form one large and inclusive circle, represented by the rainbow foil stamped highlighting, that everyone can be a part of. Circles coming in and out of this larger circle are in a pristine blind embossed finish.
As the invitation, printed on luxurious 100% cotton letterpress stock, unfolds, the concept and information become very clear via a clean sans serif that exudes confidence and clarity yet conveys a unique character through carefully chosen alternative type features. The last panel contains the same sized large circle as a blind emboss representing the blank slate or ‘tabula rasa’ of the Circle group as well as the community’s future. A simple colorful flourish at the very right edge of the invitation represents the light shining in from that yet-to-be-determined future.
This small piece, wrapped in a lipstick-colored envelope, needed to do a lot of work to get the messages across and its strength lies in the details and meticulous production efforts. We chose to work with Yorke Print Shoppe for their excellent customer service, stellar print capabilities and quality and mostly because they just get it when it comes to the details of translating our vision into reality.
