Originally published in 1911, the novella Isabelle by French writer André Gide (1869–1951) was translated to Spanish by Carmen Castro (1912–1997). This is the paperback edition published in Alianza Editorial’s series “El libro de bolsillo” in 1967.
Cover design by Daniel Gil (1930–2004), using Eckmann. The default capital I in this typeface looks a lot like a J, with a top bar and a hook at the bottom. Here it was replaced with a glyph that is essentially an enlarged lowercase i. This alternate was included in the metal original, but is absent from most digital interpretations. Dieter Steffmann’s Rudelsberg is an exception.
