Oriente is the only published typeface design credited to Reiner Laich. According to the E3 catalog from 1982, the painterly caps-only face was issued in 1971 by Berthold Fototypes, in a period that saw an increased interest in (pseudo-)Victorian styles, often with floral details, see also Boldiz, Pretorian, or Victoria(n). It wasn’t a big success, but there are still several digitizations, most of them under the alias Oliver, without credits to Laich.
This French single sleeve represents an early use of Oriente. “Es Mi Hombre” by Spanish rumba singer Maruja Garrido is a cover version of Ella Fitzgerald’s “My Man”. The video starring Salvador Dalí is pretty special, see below.
