Jazz Roots Paris organizes jazz dance workshops, competitions, parties, and more.

Jazz Roots (also called solo jazz, authentic jazz, traditional jazz or vernacular jazz) is the African-American solo dance from the swing era (1920–1940), descending of some African dances and Charleston, contempary of the Lindy Hop and tap dance, and precursor of modern street dances like funk or hip-hop.

The term “Jazz Roots” has been created in 2002 by Olivier BrotherSwing to differentiate the jazz dance of the swing era from the modern jazz dance developed from the 1940s by choreographers like Jack Cole, Bob Fosse or Matt Mattox who have experimented with mixing different dances (classical, Asian, tap) and lost the anchor in the floor, its rhythm and the intimate relation with music to bring a more scenic resonance.
