With its grass-green color, melting motif and curiously centered composition, this 1966 reissue of the 1952 field recording Sounds of the Sea Vol. 1 feels like something pulled directly out of Trend List.

The fonts in use are the bold condensed weights of the Venus series.

The Discogs archive documents blue (1961), yellow and light green (1966) cover variations.

  1. Beautiful. Longing for a digital version of Venus Bold Condensed…

  2. There is Font Bureau’s Vonness. This family is not on Type Network (yet), but my understanding is that it is available for licensing on request. The family comes in 4 widths, each in 7 weights, all with italics. Here is the Compressed range:

Vonness reintroduces the angled terminals on the arms of ‘E’ and ‘F’. They were part of Bauer’s original Venus, but got straightened later.

  3. Production Type is preparing Mars, which revives Venus’s extended and condensed. Only two styles so far.
