  1. I wonder whether the designer is Gustav Šeďa. He was quite fond of Othmar Motter’s typefaces and used them for several other Supraphon covers.

By the way, text “Žit jako kaskader…” (both upper and lower case) is not Futura or Avant Garde but Century Gothic by Sol Hess (MT 1937). The other cover has Zhurnalnaya Roublennaya.

  3. Ivar, thank you for your comment! I see what you mean. Century Gothic indeed seems to be a match. Century Gothic is not a direct revival of Sol Hess’s Twentieth Century (Monotype’s copy of Futura), but rather was redrawn to match the widths of ITC Avant Garde Gothic. Twentieth Century looks different, e.g. in S. Century Gothic wasn’t released before 1990, i.e. after this record was issued. My best explanation is that the first image isn’t authentic – it doesn’t show the original cover, but is a later, digital recreation using a font that mimics Zhurnalnaya Roublennaya.

  4. I’ve revised this post and added the credits: the design is by Rudolf Knedlhans.

I also replaced the anachronistic image with Century Gothic with a different one that uses Zhurnalnaya Roublennaya. You can still see the previously shown one on Discogs.

  5. See also the design by Zdeněk Hašler for the singles released for the 1982 edition. It uses another typeface by Motter:
