Founded in 2006, Brownbook is an guide to the Middle East and North Africa focusing on design, travel, and culture. The 2010 redesign was conceived by Ken Leung, founding art director of Monocle. Until 2013, the creative director was Tahir Iqbal. Ryan Miglinczy contributed design work in 2014.
With its flag-waving ‘W’, the magazine’s signature typeface is Belwe, used for the logo, cover lines, and interior titling. A variety of typefaces appear on covers and in interiors over the years, but Haas Unica, FF Quadraat, and (later) Mercury have all been staples.
