Origin unclear. This series was cast by the Poppelbaum foundry
in Vienna before 1926 as Blockschrift or
Block, in at least four styles; schmal (in-house,
1920), fett, Kursiv, and licht. The schmal and fett were also
available in Cyrillic versions [Wetzig 1926–40]. Poppelbaum’s schmal is
lighter than the schmal and eng styles of Berthold’s
Block, and their fett (used for sample) is
rounder than Reklameschrift Block.
Versions of the fett were also cast by Schriftguss
(Nero, before 1914), Brendler (as
Blockschrift), Warnery (as Mammouth noir)
[Reichardt 2011] and Zanker [Th. Maier]. Fondografica had the schmal as
Modena and the fett as Bologna (before
1926 [Reichardt 2011]). Reggiani had the schmal
as Sansone and the fett as Nerone
