Origin unknown, but it existed as far back as 1968. Given the design and Red Rooster’s involvement it could be by Les Usherwood.

There are many digital versions, by Linotype, URW, Elsner+Flake (all in four weights and credited to Steve Jackaman). See also Salzburg, which appears to be identical beyond some differing figures. TS Castle (TypeShop Collection) has seven weights plus obliques and appears to follow Salzburg.

BB&S released a different face by this name in 1888.
