Designed by Morris F. Benton for ATF in 1915. Similar to his Freehand, drawn a couple of years later, but has plainer caps, lower contrast, and shorter descenders [McGrew 1993]. Sold by Stephenson Blake as Runnymede and offered by Letraset before 1981 under that name.
Not to be confused with Motto (Boston, 1879).
Queen Empress (2002, used for sample) is an auto-traced digitization by Paul Lloyd, probably based on a showing of Motto in 24 Calligraphic Display Fonts (Dover, 2001).
