A book for fashion brand Melissa that aims to present the company, its history, and the main partnerships with designers and stylists.

Giving prominence to shoe images, the graphic design is minimalist and uses several graphic resources: varnish on all pages, cover with anti-scratch varnish, dry relief, and polystyrene glove.

The typography pairs Tungsten Rounded with Whitney.

enorm 06/2019 – “Make Love”

Enorm is a magazine for social change. It aims to encourage individuals by showing small steps that enable each and every individual to contribute, following the motto “The future starts with you”. In addition, it presents enormously inspiring people of action and their ideas as well as companies and projects that make life and work more sustainable and sustainable. Constructive, intelligent and solution-oriented, enorm is a journalistic print and digital project for a good life in a better world.

The magazine logo and headlines use Toledo Serial, paired with Whitman and Whitney for smaller text. The fifth image shows a spread using overprinted Adventure for quotes.

Book cover, website, promotional imagery and video for Dictionary Stories: Short Fictions and Other Findings, a collection of very short stories composed entirely of example sentences from the dictionary.

In 2015, designer and illustrator Jez Burrows published a zine of stories constructed entirely from example sentences found in the dictionary. His charming, witty narratives struck a chord, and an accompanying Tumblr link was shared far and wide by everyone and their cool aunts. A year on, Jez asked us to create a dedicated home for his project that would allow it to grow beyond a blog. The site is now live, complete with new wordmark by Dan Cassaro and the entire back-catalogue of stories.

From Tumblr to newsletters, instagram, and videos (below) to the final book itself, the whole project of Dictionary Stories, seems as much a fun exploration into the possibilities of publishing and pre-publishing in any medium possible, as it is an exploration of the possibilities of storytelling with lexicographers' example phrases.

From a to z, every detail of the parts that make up the project is meticulously arranged to fit a black-yellow-white colour palette and strict set of typographic rules. All type is set in Kris Sowersby's Tiempos and Tiempos Display, assisted by Hoefler&Co's Whitney on the website. For a project with such a leading role for typography, it may not come as a surprise that author Jez Burrows is also a designer/illustrator.

Oddly, apart from showing some process pictures of his illustrations for the book, Burrows does not credit or mention 'typography' or 'designer' in any page, post or imprint of the Dictionary Stories so far.

The book was published by Harper Perennial in USA april 2018, and in Europe / rest of the world in may 2018.

Norme & Tributi Mese journal covers topics including taxation, accounting, and corporate law. Working for them gave Bunker the chance to deal with complex and intricate themes, using a streamlined, well-balanced, and graphically refined tool. Since it first launched, this journal has always aimed at providing high quality contents, with an editorial board that includes the most influential and popular names in this field.

This academic exercise was to reimagine the logo and some spreads for the Portuguese newspaper Sol, Issue #268, October 14th, 2011. The textual content was fixed: would be exactly the same as the existing edition. Images also had to comply with the same number existing in the original newspaper, however we determined their size and importance.

In our approach, we created a completely distinct newspaper, seeing this exercise not only as a way to improve the existing Sol, but also to give it a new identity. Thus, we turned its personality from the most sensational to literary. The text gained importance, the images become less invasive and we also introduced a new element: the illustration, which gave a certain lightness to the publication.

The road for Genius.com (previously Rap Genius) has been rocky. A startup centered around annotating lyrics, they’ve been struggling with bro culture and their graphic identity for years. Kanye West even tried his hand at a redesign.

“He never actually completed it. If he had, that would have definitely been the new design of Rap Genius.”

The lackluster logo from an otherwise groundbreaking Kokoro & Moi tells of good intentions but falls short.

In moving from rapgenius.com to simply genius.com, they wisely replaced Verdana with Whitney for body copy, but the pairing with headline typeface DIN felt off. August 2015 brought the latest redesign. DIN was replaced by Programme, whose versatility shines. The humanistic forms in Whitney and Programme keep continuity. Programme’s dimensions prove it to be perfect for metadata, while careful use of bold stylistic sets hint at formulae in line with the site’s namesake.

“The New Metrics of Success” is part of a continuing series of Embraer communiqués dedicated to helping airlines confront industry challenges. Subtitled “Fresh Perspectives on Airline Fleet Strategies,” the brochure makes a case for a business model that emphasizes profit-per-seat and return to shareholders over the pursuit of market share (which often involves discounted fares — and lower returns —in order to fill large aircraft of 170 seats or more). A key insight is that Embraer’s “right-sized” 70 to 130-seat aircraft segment can lead to better profits because lower-capacity aircraft generate higher revenue per seat.

During a nine-month program The Work Lab invests in individuals, non-profit, and for-profit ideas to empower low-wage workers and strengthen the middle class economy in the US.

On the corresponding website Antenna for headlines, navigation and short, striking text passages is combined with Whitney for continuous text.

As in all our rebranding projects, we sat down with the client and re-defined their brand. MCCANNPR Romania adopted a new business model, built on content that is useful, contextualized, and thought out for long-term impact and risk resilience. The new positioning — risk-proof, tech-savvy content creators — speaks not of a traditional PR shop, but of a PR-led creative agency.

Identity. Turn information into content. Raw data into meaning.
MCCANNPR Romania’s new brand slogan — Foresight. Insight. Excite. — walks the talk. Its three words effectively summarize the brand's whole meaning, and the new logo adds a strong visual demonstration to it. There are no gimmicks there, no fancy symbol or trendy embellishments. The logotype unfolds like the wings of a butterfly. An initial 1C\N doubles itself into a custom-set MCCANN, to be shortly completed by PR. Thus, apparently nonsensical information starts making sense and telling a story under our eyes. This dynamic digital logotype also jumps out into the physical world, to live as embossed or cut out versions in printed material.

You’re The Expert is a live show and podcast which combines comedy with academic research. In their own words, it takes research “out of the ivory tower and into your iPhone”. Each show features an expert in an obscure field along with a panel of comedians who must guess what the expert does all day knowing nothing but the name of their job (ichthyologist or herpetologist, for example).
 
Aerogram Studio had a great time working on You’re The Expert, partially because we got to listen to the hilarious podcast as research, but also because the project presented a unique challenge for us as designers. The logo had to function for both a public show and a podcast, and represent both comedy and serious research. Ultimately, the logo we developed plays up this idea of duality, with an expert and a comedian shown in dialogue with one another.

Stripe, the online payment platform is typeset completely in Whitney.

Noel Kingsbury’s love letter to the daffodil is simultaneously my love letter to Whitney. The entire book is set in Whitney — body text, larger intro text, captions, and most of the heds. The exception is Feijoa, used in its beautiful display weight for chapter titles and A-heds (and the cover).

The book is casebound with a dust jacket. Published by Timber Press in 2013.

I created a graphic (with ink and a toothbrush) to give a yellow glow from the gutter, to keep the flower power going on some of the spreads that lacked photos.
