Lettering artist and title designer Harold Adler suggests that the typeface is derived from his advertising and title sequence lettering for the 1958 film Bonjour Tristesse.
Originally released with two variants for many characters, but digital versions only offer one.
A Cyrillic version was developed for ParaType in 2000 by Vladimir Pavlikov.
