A slab serif version of ITC
Avant Garde Gothic, designed by Herb Lubalin and drawn
by Tony Di Spigna and Joe Sundwall. The bold face was created
especially for the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) for their
1974–1975 promotion program [U&lc, 1-3]. The
obliques were drawn by Ed Benguiat in 1981 [U&lc
8-2]. Condensed styles were added in May 1992, made by Helga
Jörgenson and Sigrid Engelmann at URW via adding slab serifs to the
condensed styles of ITC Avant Garde Gothic.

Letraset adopted the Extra Light, Medium, Bold with alternates
and ligatures [1976 catalog], and later the Bold Oblique (w/o
extras) [1988/89 catalog].
Digitizations by Bitstream (4 weights, distinguished
by a hooked ‘r’ in the Extra Light and Book; discontinued) and
ITC (5 weights of regular width and 4 condensed weights, all with
obliques, with small caps for the Cond. Book and Cond. Medium; also
sold by Elsner+Flake and previously by URW). None More…
