Florentine Old Style was released circa 1894 by
Dickinson, with Bold (before 1898), Bold Condensed, and Bold Extra
Condensed (1903) following [Reichardt 2011]. First shown by ATF in
their 1896 catalog [Shields].
Also cast by Società Urania (as Serie Navarra),
Società Augusta (as Sirena), and Brendler (as
Venezia). Wimble had the bold as Carr
Bold [Reichardt 2011].
“…originally hand-lettered by personnel of the Binner Engraving
Company.” Some sources credit it to Ludvig S. Ipsen because he
filed a patent on extra widths, but that does not prove he designed
