Originated as Fotosetter face at Intertype, in two all-caps styles, A and (the wider and smaller) B [1954 specimen], to be combined as caps and small caps [1955 ad].
Digitized by Bitstream in 1990–1993, a.k.a. Copperplate 005. In 2003, Isabella Chaeva added Cyrillic characters and a second Bold style for ParaType.
Sweet Sans is a similar design extended to a range of weights, with added lowercase, small caps, and italics.
Not to be confused with Hansen’s Engravers Gothic, which is their version of Copperplate Gothic.
