Designed by Geoffrey Lee. Stephenson Blake’s foundry version spans three styles, regular (1965), Condensed, and Outline (1967). At least the regular was also cast by Amsterdam [Reichardt 2011]. Includes alternates for ‘r’ and ‘J’ [1977 specimen].
Microsoft bundled Impact with their software for many years and it was one of the original Core fonts for the Web in 1996 [Microsoft]. Unlike Monotype’s/Adobe’s, URW’s digital version includes the Condensed. In 2002, Geoffrey Lee added Impact Wide with italic. See also OL Newsbytes. In 2010, Ascender Corp. released Impact 2010, adding OpenType features, including interlocking contextual alternates [Ascender].
