The Hiragino series was undertaken collaboratively by Dainippon Screen and Jiyu-kobo (字游工房), a small foundry set up by Tsutomu Suzuki, Osamu Torinoumi [Peiran Tan] and Keiichi Katada [Basset] Two weights (W3, W6) of Hiragino Mincho (ヒラギノ明朝) come bundled with Apple Mac OS. A.k.a. Hiragino Serif.
