Alexandre Babel is a percussionist, composer, and curator with contemporary interests ranging from modern classical music and experimental music to performance art. Babel’s works challenge the listener’s expectations regarding conventional musical forms. He is a founding member, along with artist Mio Chareteau, of the performance collective Radial.

His portfolio website was designed by Ivan Liovik Ebel, using GT Haptik as the main typeface. Selected headlines use MAD Sans.

The Design Academy Eindhoven celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2022 with more than 200 Bachelor’s and Master’s projects catalogued in this book, with a reflection on the evolving identity and works of the student body. Every year, thousands of visitors attend the graduation show, which is one of the world’s most influential exhibitions by new designers. Responding on climate crises to digitisation, the new alumni engage with a range of presentation formats, performances, and hybrid practices to explore potential new futures, offer critiques on our current reality, and engage with complex ideas about what design is, what it does, and what it should do.

Project descriptions and essays are set in Maison by Milieu Grotesque and project titles are set in Self Modern by Bretagne. Other headings are set in MAD Sans by Colophon which is part of Design Academy Eindhoven’s visual identity.

An index is a guide or symbol used to navigate everything from books and HTML to stock markets and colour swatches. The Design Academy Eindhoven Graduation Catalogue 2021 presents four navigational indexes as an invitation to explore the themes, materials and methodologies of the 166 graduation projects, each one a symbolic index of both the field of design and our times. Rather than an overarching narrative, indexes are tools to explore how different reading and realities emerge by design.

The graduation catalogue consists of four larger indexes: the main index, which contains more than 500 index word with subcategories and references that help the reader to navigate through the projects and shows potential connections. This index is containing as well an alphabetical index of all the student names and project titles. Followed by a visual index, ordered by departments, a word frequency index of all words used within the project texts, and last but definitely not least the project index, structured alphabetically by the names of the students. For the project pages it was important for us to create a fluent layout that keeps the main structure of a catalogue, but that allows us to portrait each project in the best possible way. For this we asked the students to submit additional footage that we can use alongside the image that was taken during the photo-shooting.

The index as well as the headlines are set in MAD Sans Bold by Colophon Foundry is used, which is part of Design Academy Eindhoven’s visual identity. For all project descriptions and essays Söhne Halbfett by Klim Type Foundry is used, to create a contrast to the relatively thin MAD Sans.

Sugar Lounge commissioned a brand identity for the rebrand of their venue based in Manly, Sydney, sitting just off the famous beachfront.

The brief was to create an kitchy tongue-n-cheek Hawaiian theme, which has been created through the use of wordplay/puns, a colour palette consisting of neon pink, Marrs green, gold, black, off-white, pastel pink, and pastel green. Modern kitsch/neon serif and sans serif typographic combinations as welll as commissioned illustrational and typographic elements have been created.

This brand and execution includes print, digital, packaging, and clothing collateral.

Nearly half of American adults develop a mental illness in their lifetime; depression affects 350 million people worldwide. Yet the struggle to be well is still a shameful secret so many of us lock away—despite the fact that it drives us. Anxy is changing that. Each issue uses a central theme—“loneliness” or “boundaries”—to build an original, insightful, and creative perspective through interviews with folks we admire, personal essays, reported features, visual stories, and recommendations for what to read, watch and download to round out the conversation.

The second issue of Anxy focuses on workaholism:

Work isn’t just what we do—it’s who we are. But when does hard work stray into something addictive, controlling, and dangerous? We decided to investigate the realities of work in an issue filled with personal experiences, brave interviews, striking photography, and creative work. —Anxy

Alias Sabre is mixed with Sporting Grotesque, MAD Sans and the related BTP for headline type. Text is in GT America. Noe Display is used for the Anxy logotype.

Kreis Plöhn is the 7th album by Köhn AKA Jürgen De Blonde on Kraak. The album art was designed by Ruttens-Wille, using the recently released MAD superfamily by Dries Wiewauters.
