Photo-Lettering’s take on Schmalfette Grotesk (1954) by Swiss
designer Walter Haettenschweiler. Used
in 1963. Not yet shown in 1960. [PLINC 1960] Shown in three styles;
Extra Condensed 5 and 8,
Condensed 10, all with
added lowercase (with round dots); plus
two Biform styles as well as Open (caps w/ biform alts) and
Interlock (see Swiss Interlock) variants [PLINC 1965].
The caps-only Dandee appears to be another
(earlier?) adaptation of Schmalfette Grotesk.
[PLINC 1965] Dandy is described
as “original handlettered design”, and Swiss Gothic as “graphic
handlettered interpretation of type style” [PLINC One Liner 1971].
The sample uses Swiss Interlock (without interlocking
alternates), the only style available in digital form. See also
