Designed by Herbert Thannhaeuser and cut by August Rosenberger [Bertheau 1995]. Released by Stempel in 1928. Expanded with swash caps as Schwung-Adastra in 1931 or 1932. Named Royal for markets abroad [Wetzig 1926–40] [Reichardt 2011].
Digitized as OPTI Royal (Castcraft, 1990–1991, swash caps only, used for the sample) and as Adastra by Doug Olena (Keystrokes, 1992–1994, regular caps only, Regular (inline) and Plain (solid) styles, poor spacing). Rhythm (Positype, 2011) is a digital interpretation by Neil Summerour, loosely based on Schwung-Adastra.
