Swedish author Elisabeth Åsbrink’s book 1947 is a study of the post-war debate on how culture, art, and language are to develop in new societies and the place of women in this world. Kazimir Text by CSTM Fonts is charged with the publication’s typography. The book was translated by Nina Fedorova, designed by Olga Cheryumova, and published by Ad Marginem.

At the end of 2024, Riga-based publisher Talka Books issued Divas otrās / Две вторых, a collection of poems in two languages by Semjons Haņins (Семен Ханин), a participant in the Orbit text collective. The book’s typography in both Russian and Latvian is catered by Kazimir Text designed at CSTM Fonts. The double-sided book, which resembles the construction of a magic wallet is designed by Esther Betija Grāver.

Sitka Aesthetics is a med spa in Sitka, Alaska, providing a conservative but comprehensive approach to facial rejuvenation, meticulously assessing each element of a client’s aesthetic goals. With their philosophy of less is more, Sitka Aesthetics aims to rejuvenate the natural features of each client while aligning with their lifestyle and aesthetic vision.

The visual identity takes characteristics from the town, mixing bold, airy, and symmetrical elements to create a balance between sophistication and playfulness. The logotype is set in Positype’s Scotch Display, a serif font that is elegant with refined details. The typography pairs Kazimir Text, a structured serif, with a clean and straightforward sans serif URW Franklin Gothic. Roboto Mono is used throughout for accents and captions. The typefaces are used across their website and social media campaigns.

Cousins Kirill Danchenko and Dima Aleksashin, founders of Astroshock, specialize in website and mobile application development. In the summer of 2019, they drove from Moscow to Vladivostok and tried to answer one difficult question: what is the essence of hay? Эссенция сенца (“The Essence of the Hay”) is a book about this road trip. From our interview with Kirill Danchenko:

We were sitting in one of Novosibirsk’s cafes, slowly flipping through a travel book by Sergey Dolya, and suddenly realised that we could tell about our trip on paper, too, only in a completely different manner. […]

At the beginning of summer 2020, we approached ABCDesign and a week later got as many as three concepts from different designers. Naturally, we discarded all three of them. As a result, it took us about 10 takes until we finally agreed on an idea of the final layout. […]

The fonts are actually the most important element of the book. If there were about 10 takes on concepts, it took us two or three times more fonts to consider and choose from. Finally, we picked two typefaces that were OK for use in terms of feelings and worked great together: Aeroport for headlines, Kazimir Text for anything else — body text, captions. It was a separate pleasure to observe how the pair was acting on different pages!

Kazimir Text is a typeface from the large collection Kazimir + Kazimir Text, designed by CSTM Fonts, with lesser (compared to Kazimir) contrast and extended character map. Kazimir Text’s 22 styles support extended Latin and Cyrillic.

Read Me! is a new series of editorial templates introduced by Readymag. From an article for type.today’s journal:

Readymag has lately been extending its template set; well, now is the time to offer you some new templates for long reads. As we discussed this, our team got an idea to present something bigger than just a plain template: a full-featured material on the evolution of on-screen reading, issues of legibility, certain details related to web layouts and web-based representation of contents. Welcome our editorial long-read essay on editorial long-reads: it is somewhat of a recursion, right.

We provide users with an opportunity to use each chapter of this article as an independent template with its own style and typographic solutions. Apart from various approaches to layouts, we are most definitely focusing on type, and all possible kinds of ways to make use of it. Since Readymag has an extensive Russian-speaking audience, we decided to address the typefaces that support Cyrillic; our choice was largely determined by this consideration. Eventually, the thing has turned out to be very rich in terms of type, in large part thanks to type.today library.

This project by Readymag exemplifies the template in use. Contentwise, it explores how the notion of readability has evolved over years and offers designers some ideas and tools on how to create a readable text.

“Define and conquer” mixes Druk Wide and Druk Condensed. Text is rendered in Graphik.

Part 2 features more Stratos and Spectral, both by Jean-Baptiste Levée. The letter a in the illustration is from Charter.

For part 3, the typography switches to Pragmatica and Times New Roman.

Part 4 opens up with Graphik Super and uses Georgia for text, with one paragraph in Pragmatica. The samples present Matthew Carter’s Georgia alongside its sans-serif cousin Verdana.

The concluding tips section combines numerals from Pilowlava with Karloff Negative for the heading, Kazimir Text, and Graphik.

Jewelry of the Golden Age of Hollywood, conceived and produced at the HSE Art and Design School Moscow, is a visual research that considers costume design as an important element in the work on the film. Through the prism of cinematography, the author explores how jewelry was demonstrated in those times, how it is related to the character personality and helps to reveal it in the film, and why the jewelry as just a small detail of the costume is so important for the whole image of the character. The book also gives an idea of the vintage jewelry, showing the aesthetics of this period.

The book is an album of characters from the movies of the Golden Age of Hollywood. The characters were divided into eight sections based on their roles in the films. For each character, there is a questionnaire in the book that provides information about the character, which actor or actress plays the character and in which movie. The visual material of the study is photographs of the character's jewelry and photographs or film frames of the character wearing presented jewelry.

The fonts that were used in the book are Kazimir and Kazimir Text, conveying the atmosphere of glamour, corresponding to the shown era.

Meloman is a magazine published by the Moscow Philharmonic. This is Issue No. 2, summer 2018. On the cover: composer Alexander Wustin by Anisia Kuzmina. Layout and art direction by Kirill Gluschenko. 192 pages, 168×240 mm, in Russian.

The magazine logo uses Scotch Modern. Body copy is set with Kazimir Text and Girott is used in many forms and sizes ranging from section openers and drop caps to quotes etcetera.

Two schools set the direction of design education in the 20th century: Germany’s Bauhaus and the Soviet Union’s Vkhutemas, the Russian acronym for the Moscow-based Higher Art and Technical Studios. While any reference to the Bauhaus is immediately understood anywhere in the world, mention of Vkhutemas often goes unrecognized, even in Russia.

Without ignoring the differences between these two, we hope to suggest the parallel essence of the institutions and the nature of their programs in this timeline.

The typographic concept is based on typefaces corresponding to the narrative. While Futura represents the spirit of the Bauhaus, Kazimir Text is a reference to pre-revolutionary Russian typography. Lan is a custom typeface inspired by various (typo)graphic references that we have consulted during the design process. With its bold and modular construction, Lan serves as integrating visual element. Initially drawn as a limited set of drop caps, it was soon expanded so that it could be used for headings, too. Lan is currently work in progress. Once finished, it might be released under the OFL license.

RBC (РБК) is a leading Russian multimedia holding. It operates in the internet, television, and print media segments. RBC occupies leadership positions in news and business media as well as in domain name registration and hosting.

Диалоги с Сокуровым is a book about Russian filmmaker Alexander Sokurov, edited by N. Solodnikov and K. Gordeeva, and published by Подписные издания; Открытая библиотека (Subscriptions; The Open Library) in 2018.
