Designed by C.H. Griffith for Mergenthaler Linotype, “as an interpretation of the extra bold letter typified by Cooper Black” [McGrew 1993], using the name introduced by ATF for the design by Frederic Goudy in 1902. Upright and italic styles were released in 1928. In 1931, condensed styles followed. See also Ludlow Black.
Chopped Black (Tipo Pèpel, 2012) is a digital interpretation and was used for the sample.
