Monotype’s interpretation of the type used for printing the Theuerdank book from around 1517. The original was cut by Johann Schönsperger the elder after handwritten models by Vinzenz Rockner and was influential for the development of the fraktur style. [Wikipedia] Issued in 1935 as series 392 and withdrawn in 1964. [Gill 2020]
Digitizations by Oliver Weiss (rough contours, Walden Font Company, 1996; identical from Dieter Steffmann, 2000?), Lindenthal (smooth contours, used for sample, before 2014), and SoftMaker (2016?, apparently derived from Lindenthal’s, but with a modified ‘h’). Steffmann’s version was extended by Peter Wiegel as Neue Theuerdank (2012).
