Designed by Herman Ihlenburg [Reichardt 2011]. Patented by MS&J on April 15, 1879, according to their 1885 catalog. No specific patent for this design date exists on that date at the USPTO, however. Attic is essentially the light weight of Campanile, which does have a patent on that date.
