Mellissa Inline in use

Mellissa Inline in use. Designed by Douglas Sheldrake and issued by Letraset in a single contoured style, Mellissa Inline. Comes with a number of swash alternates. Sometimes spelled Melissa Inline.

Typony showed a phototype version in five styles under the name Tomson [Daylight Fonts]. The Outline and the Regular appear to be the Inline, separated, and the X-Bold looks like the Inline with the gap filled in.

In 1977 at age 21, I was production manager (officially) and assistant art director (unofficially) for Metropolis, a weekly newspaper in Minneapolis. I was the resident “type expert” on staff, and the editor encouraged me to write a piece for “Final Draft,” a recurring miscellany page in the newspaper. I chose to survey the landscape of type clichés of the day.

This post was originally published at Fonts In Use
