INDEX is a bimonthly exhibition listings calendar for contemporary art in galleries, institutions and project spaces, published and edited by Kirsa Geiser since 2002. The printed edition of the listings calendar is available at all participating venues in Berlin as a fold-out pamphlet, while the continually updated online version of INDEX can be consulted at indexberlin.com. The idea behind INDEX is to provide a clearly organised selection of the most important contemporary art exhibitions in Berlin in a compact format for professionals and the gallery-going public. The selection of exhibition venues is determined by the editor together with a jury.

Various features available on the mobile and desktop versions of the website are likewise intended to help you plan your visits to exhibitions throughout Berlin according to your own wishes and schedule. The content is sorted by three lists: exhibitions, venues and artists. You can choose from a range of elements via the Filter to costumize these according to your interests, such as special dates, opening hours, districts, venues-types. INDEX helps you planing a tour with the feature Tourplan as well as putting your selection into Favorites.

Formular was used by Natasha Agapova for designing two books that look back at the exhibitions organized by the START Platform for Young Art, an initiative of the Winzavod Center for Contemporary Art, Moscow.

About the START project:

An arrangement of a personal exhibition is one of the best ways for a young artist to declare about himself. Every month the START project contributes to support one artist to display his/her exhibition at Winzavod CCA. The aim of the project – to discover new names in Russian contemporary art.

​​HAK Studios is “a multidisciplinary, concept driven design studio, working with leather, textiles and ceramics”. Based in Greece and launched by designer Alex K., the company produces handcrafted pieces: HAK is short for “Handcrafted by Alex K”. which are sold in selected stores in Greece – and New York City.

In collaboration with the founder, Semiotik Design developed the naming and visual identity. The corporate image is built around photographs that show intimate combinations of bodies and HAK Studios pieces, and typography set in Activist and Formular from Brownfox.

21st Century Brand is a ‘purposeful growth’ consultancy operating out of San Francisco and London, founded and led by Jonathan Mildenhall and Neil Barrie. The firm has carved out a reputation as ‘the go-to-partner for building the most influential brands in the world’ having worked with Pinterest, Peloton, LinkedIn, Zalando, Wal-Mart, Mars, and many more.

Alias Capo is used for headline and prominent typography, with Formular used for text.

Formular (Brownfox, 2014) is the typeface chosen for the website of Nikola-Lenivets, “the largest art park in Europe around a tiny village in the Kaluga region” southwest of Moscow.

The sans serif designed by Gayaneh Bagdasaryan and Vyacheslav Kirilenko covers Latin and Cyrillic characters. The “hip Swiss sans serif of the new generation” (Brownfox) is used for the English and Russian language versions, in several of its eleven styles.

Miro is a software for mind maps, brainstorming, and project planning. It is a “collaborative online whiteboard platform designed for remote and distributed teams.” The website uses the same typeface as the software itself, Formular for text and Spoof for headings.

The identity was developed by the Miro team in San Francisco, Perm and Amsterdam in collaboration with Dutch studio Vruchtvlees.

Artist and illustrator Garif Basyrov (1944–2004) was born in ALZHIR (the Russian acronym for the Akmolinsk Camp for Wives of Traitors of the Homeland), aka Point No. 26 on the Karlag map. In the 1960s, he studied in Moscow, first at the then well-known art high school (MSKhSh) under the Surikov Institute and then at the Art Department of the Institute of Cinematography (VGIK). His graduation project was a set of illustrations to Bulgakov's Master and Margarita, which is now mandatory reading on the school curriculum but in those years was virtually forbidden and mostly available in samizdat form. One of his early exhibitions took place in 1970 in the editorial office of Yunost' (Youth) magazine, another legendary place of the period. Many people first came to know him as an illustrator of the magazine Khimia i zhizn (Chemistry and Life), which was an island of liberal thinking in vast marshes of cultural stagnation that characterized the Brezhnev Era.

Garif Basyrov. Total Inventory consists of eight volumes in a cardboard slipcase. Seven of the books are dedicated to individual series or cycles of works. A separate biographical volume includes photographs and materials from the family archive that give the most complete picture of the artist’s life. The monograph is published by Mardjani.

Альянс (Alliance) is a certification company based in Moscow. Certification enables you to demonstrate that the products or services you offer are compliant with the national and international standards. The challenge was to design a new website and stationery for Alliance.

Our idea is based on the principle of transparency. We realized that the certification process seems to be very difficult and frighteningly confusing for most of the customers. We wanted to change this stereotype by showing certification as something very simple and clear. This principle formed our visual language. We visualized each of the certification industries using transparent 3D objects. We designed a monochrome website, leaving the corporate gold color only in accents, using few text styles, making typography as simple as possible, thus focusing the client’s attention on the main thing — company's key services. The website layout reminds of the certification document exemplary.

We also designed and produced stationery for Alliance. The principle of transparency was implemented in the selection of the printed materials — we used transparent envelopes for invoices and letters, white or light grey paper for blanks and business cards, correlating them with the website’s imagery. In this case, transparency also means trust that is formed between the customers and the company.

The term “School of London” – adopted by R. B. Kitaj in 1976 to refer to the many outstanding artists based in London who drew and painted the human figure – has often been applied to a small group of six painters: Frank Auerbach, Francis Bacon, R. B. Kitaj, Leon Kossoff, Lucian Freud, and Michael Andrews. — Pushkin Museum of Art

Formular in use in the catalogue that accompanies Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, and the School of London, an exhibition in the Pushkin Museum of Art organised in collaboration with Tate Modern. The design of the catalogue is quite straightforward, but ABC Design found opportunities to play with type. Note the colored footnote markers and the rotated captions.

Outside/Inside is a book by Norwegian design agency Heydays, celebrating their 10th anniversary. The book's contents consist of case studies, enhanced with inside stories from behind the scenes: details about success and failure and what Heydays have learnt over the years.

The book typography uses Formular, like all Heydays studio communication.

Terra Kaffe is an espresso machine launched by Sahand Dilmaghani on November 8, 2018. The brand’s Design and Art Director is Nenad Dickov. Dickov deployed Formular for every aspect of the brand, from the logo and website text to the labeling and touchpad control panel on the product itself.

Asphalt is a collaborative project, started by graphic designer Artem Strizhkov and editor-in-chief and photographer Alexey Lapin, and is also the first independent skateboard culture magazine in Russia. Asphalt’s layout, photos, stories, and aesthetic take no influences from the most popular skate magazines, but are inspired by the current crop of culture magazines. Asphalt represents a new kind of magazines about skateboarding and skateboarding itself as an art and a new look at the cities of the Post-Soviet space with their architecture and monuments.

The book Grenzgang by Felix Steinhoff was designed by Oliver Modosch in collaboration with Felix Steinhoff, using the Formular typeface.

We are a group of media artists currently located in Moscow. Our main activities are generative installations, motion design, architectural and object mapping.
We also design fashion shows and shoot fashion video for young fashion designers in Moscow.

New Space Moscow is an interdisciplinary project run by the Theatre of Nations, which is aimed at uniting contemporary artists of all fields to create a new cultural environment by means of researching all of the diverse forms of contemporary art.

Conceptual framework of the New Space (Новое Пространство) is made up of seven modules: curating, literature, dance and performance art, architecture, music, visual arts, and cinema. Within each one of those modules a research will be conducted to find our how this particular form of art is related with the theatre tradition, and what is the nature of this relationship.

The first Moscow International Forum “Culture. Look into the future”, organized by the Department of culture of Moscow, took place in the Central Exhibition Hall “Manege” from the 15th to the 18th of October 2014.

The Forum was the main event of the Year of Culture 2014 and aimed to bring together more than 4,000 attendees from 15 countries — leading Russian and international experts in the field of culture and art, science and education, heads of Russian and foreign cities, representatives of legislative and executive authorities, business and creative industries.

House, the beat-driven dance music style that developed from disco in the 1980s, has found its place in the Icelandic music scene. Design has always been a big part of this particular genre, for example on posters, flyers and in album art. In Húsverk, the Icelandic house music history is divided into different periods, featuring interviews with various DJs. The look of house music is interpreted, and its DIY mentality portrayed. The book Húsverk is mass-produced on a photo copier, with a hand-stamped cover. The records are cut in Iceland, hand-stamped with a silkscreen printed cover, and issued in a limited edition.
