The default font on Android and other Google services. Initially
design by Christian Robertson and first released in 2011
for Android 4.0, in six weights (roman and oblique), plus
Condensed styles. [Android
Design] Considerably revised in 2014 for Android 5.0. The
most striking differences in the revision include round dots, round
glyphs without straight segments, a straight-legged ‘R’, and ‘kK’
without horizontal bridge. Supports Latin (incl. Vietnamese),
Greek, and Cyrillic.
Heebo is an extension with Hebrew
characters.
Roboto
Flex is an adaptation to variable font format with
parametric axes, “amplifying the original design to an extreme
range of weights, grades, widths and optical sizes.” Developed by
Font Bureau for Google and designed by David Berlow, Santiago
Orozco, Irene Vlachou, Ilya Ruderman, Yury Ostromentsky, and
Mikhail Strukov. First released in September 2021.
