A digitization of the nameless geometric sans used by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) for station signs since 1954, see Toronto Station. Started by David Vereschagin in the early 1990s [Bateman 2018] and released in 2004, Toronto Subway is based on rubbings and photographs of the original signs. It expands the character set, notably adding a lowercase. Originally in two weights. Light and Black weights were added in 2014.
