Issued by ATF in 1915, based on lettering drawn by Oswald B. Cooper for the Packard Motor Company in 1913. A bold style was added by M.F. Benton in 1916. [Reichardt 2011] [McGrew 1993] The original weight has alternates for ‘v’, ‘w’, ‘y’, ‘S’; both weights have a handful of ligatures [McGrew 1993].
A revival of the bold is shown in the 1991 edition of Rookledge’s International Typefinder under the name Packhard. For digital options, see Packard Old Style (used for sample) and Packard Patrician NF. There is also a digitization of both weights as OPTI Packard C (Castcraft, 1990–1991; extended by Dieter Steffmann in 2000).
