A libre version of Ascender Sans, Liberation Sans is metrically compatible with Arial. It’s part of the Liberation fonts intended to provide free substitutes for the most popular fonts on Microsoft’s Windows operating system and the Office software package. Developed by Steve Matteson at Ascender Corp. and licensed by Red Hat. First released in May 2007 together with Liberation Serif and Liberation Mono. In April 2010, Oracle Corporation contributed Liberation Sans Narrow to the project. The fonts are default in LibreOffice.
