Tulo is a close copy of Seymour Chwast’s Art Tone Boot Black, made by FotoStar/Facsimile Fonts [Berthold 1974]. It was also carried by Fürst [Fürst c.1976], Castcraft (as Tushy) [Castcraft 1978], Phil’s [Phil’s Photo 1985], and Solotype [Solo 1992]. Formatt had a dry transfer adapation as Concert [Formatt 1978].
Compared to Chwast’s original, Tulo has less well defined contours, slightly lower contrast, a right-pointing top serif in ‘d’, a full-wide descender in ‘p’, a counter in ‘O’ that isn’t wider at the top, and a hook-shaped (as opposed to circular) ear in ‘g’, among other differences.
Digitized as DXS Tulo (Dick Pape, 2010).
