The exhibition 다시 쓰는 떡전골 Rewriting Tteokjeongol by 송지형 Jihyung Song took place from October 5th to 31st, 2024, in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, South Korea. A series of posters as well as a booklet were designed on this occasion by 박채희 Chaehee Park, typeset in HAL Timezone Mono, published by HAL Typefaces, and 지백 Ji-Baek by 박진현 Jin-hyun Park.

A brief description of the exhibition, provided by the designer:

As the name suggests, Byeongjeom in Hwaseong City is a braille letter for rice cake shops. Since there were many rice cake shops where scholars coming from the provinces to take the civil service exam would fill their hungry stomachs, it was called Tteokjeongol. Tteokjeongol was a midpoint where people from outside and inside the country could come together and benefit each other.

The exhibition will be held in four non-exhibition spaces in the Tteokjeongol area near Byeongjeom Station. The exhibition consists of three general commercial facilities and one private space, and new videos, flat works, installations, audience-participatory installations, and audience-participatory performances will be presented.

This exhibition experiments with the practice of art as an “Exchange of inheritance,” a theme the artist has dealt with for a long time, at Tteokjeongol in Byeongjeom.

Identity design for digital painting class service Pado.

A meeting of digital and drawing, painting, and art, Pado’s digital painting service allows anyone to easily draw and create their own pictures with digital devices, enabling them to feel the materials and textures of various paintings implemented digitally.

We created symbols based on brush strokes and wave shapes, and adopted a cursive English typeface to express dynamic forms.

Docking! is a South Korean contest supported by Vostok Press and Fujifilm. The aim is to help photographers publish their first books. The first contest was held in 2018, and since then, photographers with various personalities have been selected, and their first photo books have been published. 2024 Docking! aims to provide opportunities for photographers to grow their work through books.

The visual identity of the contest was developed by Korean studio Waterain using the typeface Jibaek 지백 designed by Jinhyun Park, and the typeface Baustraße produced by Fantasia Type and distributed by Future Fonts.

In 2024, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra embarks on a new chapter with the appointment of Jaap van Zweden as its new conductor. For the design of the program, the Seoul-based studio Workroom selected Charlottenburg for headlines and display settings, Jibaek for Korean texts, and Neue Haas Grotesk for their English counterparts.

The broad range of applications includes various types of printed ephemera, such as pamphlets and posters, signage, video, and social media. The prominent titles are set in Charlottenburg Choices, allowing emphasis on individual letters by expanding their width and lending an air of expressiveness to the overall aesthetic. On occasion, the Circles variant is also included. Jibaek and Neue Haas Grotesk are employed for subheadings, body text, and captions throughout the program and in cross-media applications.
