Founded by <a href="https://www.instagram.com/elisacarassai/">Elisa Carassai </a>and <a href="https://www.leonardopellegrino.com/">Leonardo Pellegrino,</a> the magazine is designed by <a href="https://aisslinger-pellegrino.com/">Aisslinger Pellegrino</a> and has published its fifth issue, <a href="https://salietabacchijournal.bigcartel.com/product/sali-e-tabacchi-riv-05-la-via-del-fuoco">Riv.05, “La Via del Fuoco”</a>. The Milanese magazine, written in English and Italian, investigates fire as a primordial element – from molten lava and volcanoes, to eros, love and its twin flames, to spirits, will-o’-the-wisps, perpetual flames, and sacred fires – tracing how this perpetual force has shaped humanity’s existential condition since its origins. The volume brings together essays, images, and literary fragments.<br />

The magazine is set in <a href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/218198/ot-magister"><strong>OT Magister</strong></a> by <a href="https://omnitype.ch/">Omnitype,</a> a faithful revival of <a href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/104203/magister">Aldo Novarese’s Magister</a>, for its title, and paired with <a href="https://www.alexlescieux.com/typefaces/allinea/"><strong>AL Linea</strong> </a>Book for the text, a precise revival of <a href="https://fontsinuse.com/type_designers/4192/umberto-fenocchio">Umberto Fenocchio</a>’s <a href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/37213/linea">FTC Linea</a> by <a href="https://www.alexlescieux.com/">Alex Lescieux</a>. These two modern Italian typefaces, reawakened from slumber, resonate with the dual nature of fire, enduring and regenerative.<br />

<p>The inaugural exhibition, <em>Exploring Perspectives</em>, opened on April 18, 2024, with the modular <em>Seats System</em> by <a href="https://www.swedishgirls.org/product/ss-c-90">Swedish Girls</a> and the abstract photography series <em>I Wish I Did</em> by <a href="https://riccardoraspa.com/">Riccardo Raspa</a>. This marked the beginning of Quattro’s commitment to short-form exhibitions that bring international and local voices into dialogue.</p>

<p>The visual identity of Quattro Milano was developed by <a href="https://aisslinger-pellegrino.com/">Aisslinger Pellegrino</a>, composed in <strong><a href="https://www.alexlescieux.com/typefaces/allinea/">AL Linea</a></strong> Book, a revival by <a href="https://www.alexlescieux.com/">Alex Lescieux</a> of <a href="https://fontsinuse.com/type_designers/4192/umberto-fenocchio">Umberto Fenocchio</a>’s <a href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/37213/linea">FTC Linea</a> from the late 1960s. Based in Milan, their studio focuses primarily on producing videos for commercial clients. This marks the beginning of their first adventure as independent art publishers, highlighting the photographic work of <a href="https://g-e-galanello.eu">Giovanni Galanello </a>on the island of San Pietro, Italy. This photographic series, limited to 100 copies, depicts the sea, rocks, seaweed, boats, nets, hands, salt, cold scales, and buildings with barely lit rooms, capturing the daily life of the fishermen on the island in the Sulcis archipelago. On the back cover, it reads (translated from the Italian):</p>

They spread the pale sacks filled with eggs on the bed of white crystals, covering the heart like in a limestone mound, a large, still warm ruby. Salt to salt. Purple streaks stain the white bed. Under the stones, in the salt, hung on threads to dry, they prepare the organs for divination.</p>

<p>The visuals are the result of a close collaboration between the ECAL graphic designer and the photographer, producing four impossible objects merging photography and CGI. The sans used on posters, leaflets and signage is the earliest version of <strong><a href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/229473/al-linea">AL Linea</a></strong>, a revival started by Alex Lescieux in 2020 at ECAL. <p>The typophoto posters, postcards and the booklet presenting the results of the workshop were set by Giacomo Bastianelli in <strong><a href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/229473/al-linea">AL Linea</a></strong> Medium and Bold, a revival started by <a href="https://fontsinuse.com/foundry/4920/alex-lescieux">Alex Lescieux</a> in 2020 at the ECAL Master Type Design. <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CpnVJWBI4yJ/?img_index=1">AL Linea</a> is a lengthy restoration project that aims to be as close as possible to the original <a href="https://fontsinuse.com/typefaces/37213/linea">FTC Linea</a> by Umberto Fenocchio launched in the sixties, using very precise scans of all the characters shown in the original specimens. AL Linea is available <a href="https://www.instagram.com/alescieux/?hl=fr">on request</a>, and the complete original collection (including condensed version) is currently under development.</p>

<p>The issue, designed by <a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://www.fontsinuse.com/designers/16275/dan-solbach-1" data-entity-code-id="16275" data-entity-code-type="Designer">Dan Solbach</a> and featuring an iconic graphic cover, translates the point of arrival and the transition to a subsequent phase in the life of the magazine, with a restyling taking place in autumn 2023. The fonts used are <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://www.fontsinuse.com/typefaces/229472/cosmos-minjong-kim" data-entity-code-id="229472" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">Cosmos</a></strong>, a free-style hand-drawn typeface made as a calligraphic interpretation of the piece <cite>Cosmos, for 4 pianos in quarter tones, Op. 28</cite> by Russian-French experimental music composer <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivan_Wyschnegradsky">Ivan Wyschnegradsky</a> (1893–1979). It was designed by <a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://www.fontsinuse.com/type_designers/9196/minjong-kim" data-entity-code-id="9196" data-entity-code-type="TypeDesigner">Minjong Kim</a> at ECAL in 2021. The sans is <strong><a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://www.fontsinuse.com/typefaces/229473/al-linea" data-entity-code-id="229473" data-entity-code-type="TypeEntity">AL Linea</a></strong>, a revival started by <a target="_self" class="entity-link" href="https://www.fontsinuse.com/type_designers/9197/alex-lescieux" data-entity-code-id="9197" data-entity-code-type="TypeDesigner">Alex Lescieux</a> in 2020 at ECAL.
