Whip-Smart is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Liz Phair, released in 1994. The design is credited to Liz Phair and Mark O (Ohe).

On the front and back covers, the artist’s name and the album title use a distorted version of Typo Upright [edit: it’s Raydiant, see comments]. Quartet is used on the spine, for the track listings on the back cover and on the disc label, and in promotional material. The credits are printed on the tray insert using all-lowercase Matrix Script.

“nhow” is a sub-brand of the NH Hotel Group:

“nhow hotels are the most surprising and exclusive assets of the NH Hotel Group. The only rule at nhow is that there are no rules. That is the idea: there is nothing pre-established.”

or, formulated a bit more accessible:

“Hotels that are unconventional and cosmopolitan, each with a unique personality in major international cities.”

After nhow Milano (2007) and nhow London (2010), nhow hotel Rotterdam opened in 2014 in Rem Koolhaas’ massive skyscraper De Rotterdam at the borders of the Maas river.

The hotel greets visitors with a flaming red lowercase ‘n’ (taken from nhow’s logo, set in Emigre’s Matrix Script) on the balcony at the riverside, and at the hotel entrance on street level.

Every nhow hotel uses the same logo for communication, but can have their own colour palette and complimentary typeface. Nhow Rotterdam messages are set in Neutraface Display Titling, an all caps typeface with some alternate lettershapes in its lowercase character set (see for example G, K, M).

Poster design for Telling Tales, an independent theater production in Puerto Rico in partnership with the Institute of Culture of Puerto Rico. Matrix Script is used in favor of a strong but refined headline, to create a sense of intrigue and movement. Neutraface is used for all body text and sub-title purposes.

José María Cerezo took advantage of the ‘3’-shaped ‘E’ in Matrix Inline Script for a publisher based in Madrid and Galicia.

Promised Stephen I’d dig this up. I was the art director of the New Zealand edition of NetGuide magazine for its first 27 issues (September 1996 to March 1999). My love for the Emigre foundry was clearly evident here and throughout most of those issues. The nameplate, set in Suburban Bold, was quite daring for a magazine of this type, but the publisher (and the magazine’s readers) were nothing but complimentary. Soon after I departed, the publication changed hands and the masthead was redesigned in Impact or Haettenschweiler or something equally uninteresting. That was my last full-time print design job and I still miss it, but only a little!
