Originally designed by Karl Sommer and released by Ludwig &
Mayer in 1930, together with Motor, a set of caps and numerals with
“speed lines”.
Revived by Letraset around 1972, with some minor differences
(e.g. bar in ‘e’ in horizontal, ‘c’ bottom is angled in the other
direction, ‘q’ descender has semi-serif). Comes with an alternate
narrow ‘S’. Extended with the lighter Dynamo Medium
(Colin Brignall, 1977), Dynamo Shadow (Alan Meeks, 1977),
Dynamo Chrome (Alan Birch, 1982) and
Dynamo Condensed. The original bold style is also
shown in Photo-Lettering’s
Nostalgia booklet (1972).
Digitizations by ITC and Elsner+Flake (Medium, Bold, Bold
Condensed, Bold Shadow). Previously available from URW as URW
Dyana. See also SoftMaker’s More…
