The publication RAUSCH als anderer Zustand serves as a visual and textual retrospective of the Höhenrausch exhibitions at the OÖ Kulturquartier in Linz, spanning from 2016 to 2021. This two-part book captures the essence of the exhibitions through a rich interplay of imagery and text.

The first section, Bildrausch (literally: “a rush of images”), presents a purely visual experience: a photographic journey through the exhibitions, with images sorted by color – from deep Turnton’s blue to flamingo pink and ethereal cloud greys. The second section, Textrausch, features curatorial insights, artistic reflections, and analytical essays, offering a comprehensive narrative of the exhibitions’ evolution.

Typography serves as the conceptual anchor of the publication, balancing visual and narrative principles. Throughout the book, Rauschen A and B – grotesque sans-serif typefaces from the Out of the Dark foundry by Philipp Herrmann – offer a contemporary take on classical forms. Their range from Regular to Black, paired with gradient coloring, adds a vibrant, atmospheric quality that mirrors the layered themes of the exhibitions. Their rhythm and tonal richness evoke the idea of “Rausch” – a heightened, altered state – and visually reflect the immersive character of the project.

Syncro Mono, a monospaced serif by Fabio Furlani and Philipp Herrmann, adds contrast with pronounced serifs and structured rhythm. Inspired by 19th-century Ronaldson Clarendon, it reinforces the analytical clarity of the text-focused section.

Together, these typefaces shape both Bildrausch and Textrausch, create a typographic landscape that balances expressiveness with precision – echoing the multi-sensory, conceptually layered nature of Höhenrausch.

Stringer by Order Type Foundry and Rauschen B (and, to a lesser extent, A) by Out of the Dark are used for the identity of Trait, a Berlin-based running app.

Trait is your dedicated training companion, designed to help you build a consistent and healthy lifestyle. Central to the brand’s foundation is the value of ‘communication on an eye-level,’ which meant creating a visual identity that feels approachable and authentic — not over-engineered.

We took cues from the running-crew culture, known for its raw, DIY, almost punk-like energy, and blended it with the brand’s positive and empathetic ethos. The result is a minimalist design that remains clean and simple but still plays with those quirky, joyful, and unexpected moments that add character.

Ohne Titel (“Untitled”) was an exhibition showing paintings by young artists from southern Germany and German-speaking Switzerland. It was co-curated by Julian Denzler, Museum zu Allerheiligen Schaffhausen, and Christoph Bauer, Kunstmuseum Singen. The catalog was published by Modo Verlag in Freiburg.

Description of the project by designer Stephen Barrett:

Identity, graphic design and wayfinding for West Quay, a placemaking and public art project in Poole, Dorset, in collaboration with architects Dallas—Pierce—Quintero.

The visual identity draws upon the local area’s history of manufacturing, from ship building, ironmongery and beer brewing, to pottery, tiles and pharmaceuticals. The typeface Rauschen [A and B] by Out of the Dark was used throughout with the logotype and headings set in Rauschen Max. The typeface's machined aesthetic and assortment of abstract characters evoke the visual qualities of workshops, machinery, tooling and metalwork.

Working closely with DPQ, we designed a series of information boards using a modular system of printed ceramic tiles, allowing for a variety of configurations of images and text.

More than ten years ago, Muroexe began creating its first sneakers in Spain, blending the versatility of athletic footwear with the simplicity of formal shoes. In recent years, the brand has undergone various changes, including company, product, and identity transformations. The brand’s new phase is accompanied by a campaign developed under the creative direction of MURPH, a consulting firm specializing in fashion projects. The photography for the campaign was developed by Studio Mena, under Geray Mena’s visual direction, and art direction was provided by Bate Studio.

MURPH used Cosplay for the wordmark and a double merging x for its brand mark. Rauschen B Regular and Rauschen A Regular are used throughout for the typography.

Catalogue raisonné for artist Vittorio Santoro on the occasion of the exhibition Michał Budny, Vittorio Santoro: Sculpture/Sculpture at Kunstmuseum Luzern (October 2020 – January 2021). From the museum website:

The departure point for Vittorio Santorio’s work is the line as a script that – on paper or as neon on a wall – communicates ideas. he call his objects, films and installations “sculptural situations” by means of which he addresses linguistophilosophical, existential or literary themes.

The catalogue, named Vittorio Santoro: Experience Implies Movement presents the artist’s work as a monography with texts by various authors in three languages (German, English, French). The tabs in the margins of the book block enable a quick overview of the different sections. Published by Hatje Cantz “in the framework of Binding Sélection d’Artistes”.

The development of Rauschen A Regular and the design of the catalogue went hand in hand. Rauschen was optimized in legibility and emphasized in proportions. An Italic version was added. Syncro and Syncro Mono are used for captions and footnotes.
