Shown in 1890s ATF specimens in 12 sizes (5–48pt), with greatly varying design details. The sample is based on the 12pt size. Comes with small caps except for the 5pt size.

Large caps shown as early as 1856 as Gothic No. 2 [Boston], and with lowercase as early as 1888 [Cincinnati]. Also shown by Hansen as Titling Gothic No. 18.

The caps for smaller sizes of the series may have been adapted from Gothic after ATF acquired Boston Type Foundry in 1892.
