Yatasto opened its doors in the La Paternal neighborhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1953. In 2024, they approached Malcontenti Studio to undertake a brand renewal project—without losing their strong roots in Buenos Aires tradition, their passion as racehorse enthusiasts burreros which inspired their name and, of course, their love for the local barrio. We chose two very different display fonts, evoking the look and feel of old neighborhood pizza flyers, but interpreted with a modern, high-end twist.

Yatasto’s name traces back to a legendary Argentine thoroughbred born in 1948, widely regarded within the turf community as perhaps the greatest racehorse of its era. In 1951, it claimed Argentina’s Cuádruple Corona—winning the Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini, Polla de Potrillos, Jockey Club, and Nacional—alongside several other prestigious races. The bond between Yatasto and the public was so deep that phrases like “parece Yatasto” became part of everyday Argentine expressions, praising extraordinary feats.

For the color palette, Malcontenti drew inspiration from the vibrant hues of jockey silks—known for their bold and dynamic combinations—and blended them with the striking red-and-white diagonal motif of Argentinos Juniors, the beloved La Paternal football club.

Through a dialogue between contemporary artworks and heritage archives, the exhibition Révéler l’impact attempts to make visible the repercussions that mining still has on our landscapes and territories today.

Colima Cero, a non-alcoholic malt-based drink from Cervecería de Colima, embraces a bold yet welcoming visual identity. The design brings together Nichrome by Mass-Driver, with its retro-futuristic charm, and Sofia Sans Extra Condensed by Lettersoup, which adds a sense of structure and clarity.

Jun Ioneda is a graphic artist from São Paulo, Brazil, and the head of illustration studio Barca. His personal portfolio website uses Mass-Driver’s MD Nichrome together with Colophon’s DM Sans.

Pixelarte Studio designed the viusal identity and the artwork for four single records by reggaeton artist Brandon Montoya, capturing the genre’s vibrant energy and urban culture.

Featuring bold typography and vivid colors, the design reflects Brandon Montoya’s dynamic style. Typeface combinations and striking visuals ensure the brand stands out, creating a cohesive and memorable identity.

Parenting is an unpredictable journey, filled with both challenges and moments of pure joy. GoldBug, founded in 1968, is a woman-owned distributor of infant and children’s accessories.

Drawing inspiration from the notion of growth and adventure, Scorpion Rose Studio crafted a brand identity that resonates with modern parents. The logo, typography, and color palette were carefully curated to reflect the brand's commitment to quality and reliability, while exuding a sense of optimism and playfulness. The new logo was designed to pay homage to the previous Goldbug logo which featured a butterfly, as a way to carry the brand’s legacy into this new chapter. Illustrations featuring subtle imperfections and photography highlighting candid, authentic moments, further reinforce the brand's message, capturing the spontaneity and joy of parenthood.

The GoldBug rebrand exemplifies the transformative power of strategic branding in creating meaningful connections with consumers. By embracing the ethos of “Everyday Adventure,” GoldBug has reaffirmed its position as a trusted partner for parents, offering innovative products that enrich and simplify their lives. Harrison Fun Studio presents nrml bskt: mini-basketball games on an unusual court. The experience is part of the “J'aime travailler au centre-ville” (“I like to work in downtown”) project, an initiative of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal supported by the Quebec government.

Earth Alliance is a worldwide although US-centric organization at the meeting point between ecological fight and the creative industry. Earth Alliance was co-founded by actor Leonardo Di Caprio (with Laurene Powell Jobs and Brian Sheth) in 2019 and heavily advertised as such at first, but we noticed the disappearance of his name from their main channels headers, maybe due to the recurring questions around the actor's ethics and way of life (partners systematically under the age of 25…).

Delicious Nuggets are the first main public content released by Earth Alliance, in the shape of a website featuring articles targeted to creators interested into using their voices to raise awareness around climate change, as well as a fund to foster such creators. From the Nuggets website:

Nuggets are bite-sized, science-backed snacks to help creators—like you—change the conversation about the climate crisis.

Earth Alliance features a festival of typefaces for their “Nuggets”, with visual cues inspired by (online) magazine design. The three main families are Kilotype's Queens, NaN Tragedy, and Colophon’s Basis Grotesque. Each nugget, treated as an independent article, can feature a range of additional titling fonts, although some of them (Review, Ohno Softie) are used across different nuggets. The font license budget of this project might have been juicy.

Identity for the 2022 edition of Festival Selvagem, an electronic music festival that took place in São Paulo. MD Nichrome plays centre stage in all typography, assisted by Neue Helvetica.

Kiaf, the Korea International Art Fair, celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2021 with a new identity designed by Seoul-based Studio fnt. From the studio’s case study:

We tried to capture the reputation of Kiaf that has been established as Korea's representative contemporary art platform, while incorporating its future direction of portraying a younger, and more flexible look and feel.

The event’s branding and editorial design leans heavily on geometric patterns, along with the typeface MD Nichrome (used mostly in all-caps).

The Kiaf logo is a modified version of the same typeface, with the K and f significantly altered. Throughout the identity, the circular uppercase letter O is used in place of the oval digit 0.

A stunningly evocative book jacket, given that there’s only type – exclusively set in caps from a single font – plus a number of rounded shapes with gradients and shades. The design by Renald Louissaint (with art direction by Sarahmay Wilkinson) is hot, wet, and joyful, and thus perfectly captures the topic of Sarah Everts’ book, The Joy of Sweat: The Strange Science of Perspiration.

Alison Forner agrees. She nominated the design for Literary Hub’s “The 101 Best Book Covers of 2021” and comments:

What can I say about this, except that I want to reach out and touch it! I haven’t seen the book in person, but I sincerely hope some cash was spent to emboss and spot gloss those sweat drops. Between the blocky black type that interacts with the sweat, the orange gradient, and the small scientific element that punctuates the subtitle, the design decisions here are incredibly complex, but the result is effortless.

The typeface is MD Nichrome, a display sans drawn by Rutherford Craze. First released via Future Fonts in April 2020, it was completed in August 2021. Nichrome references “the typography of paperback science fiction from the ’70s and early ’80s. Many of the typefaces from this time and genre, originally drawn for dry transfer and photo-lettering, were never digitized as carefully as they deserved – Nichrome seeks to remedy this for current technology and style, not by reviving any single typeface, but by capturing elements of many.” Mission accomplished: Nichrome feels eerily familiar and refreshingly uncharted at the same time.

“Within You” is the debut single from dream-pop duo Kekko, with cover artwork designed by River Cousin. Accompanying the cover illustration, the lightest weight of MD Nichrome, Infra, is used for the band and track names.

“Within You” was released March 19, 2021, with the full EP Dreaming Life released June 11 on Spirit Goth.

Hungry Harvest is a food delivery service based in the US, working directly with farmers to deliver surplus or unwanted produce that would otherwise go to waste.

Hungry Harvest was founded on the simple belief that every American deserves to eat healthy — and everything grown deserves to be eaten. Since 2014, they’ve partnered with farmers and suppliers to fight food waste and hunger by turning rescued fruits and vegetables into delicious boxes of fresh ingredients delivered to customers’ doorsteps.

Rebranded in 2021, Hungry Harvest’s identity makes extensive use of MD Nichrome in headings and subtitles — a modified version also appears in the logo. Elsewhere in the brand, Vulf Sans is used in mockups and instagram posts, with Cabin and Neue Helvetica Extended appearing on the website.

Evi is a Brazilian cosmetics brand whose products are developed specifically for women between 40 and 50 years of age. Created by São Paulo-based studio Papanapa, the brand’s visual identity uses MD Nichrome as its primary display typeface, supported by Montserrat on Evi’s website and by Inter in other applications.

From the design studio:

The logo reveals a delicate and continuous signature, inspired by every woman’s life journey: not a straight line, but a unique path, full of nuances, curves, and stories.

The organic form of the logo contrasts nicely with MD Nichrome’s geometric construction, while the varying rhythm of the typeface maintains a sense of harmony between them. Much of the display text is set in all caps in Nichrome’s Regular style, with bolder styles used elsewhere.

Your Future London is an online platform, created by the think tank Centre for London as part of the London Futures Review project. It invites Londoners to have their say in the direction London should take in the future.

The website, designed by Studio Cronica, with illustrations by Andrea Chronopoulos, targets a young audience through the use of bright colours and simple outline illustrations paired with bold typography.

MD Nichrome by Rutherford Craze is used for headlines and overall navigation, whilst Plantin is used for body text.

Don Serifa is one of the main podcasts and publications about typography in Spanish, hosted by Pedro Arilla. In 2020, the publication was given a new look using MD Nichrome (Mass-Driver) as its primary typeface, with Epilogue (ETC) used for supporting text on the website.

Watch Better Films is a website conceived, designed and built by Jonny Thaw who “did this instead of finding a film to watch”. Visitors are asked to pick a selection from a list of movie genres or directors, and the website will suggest three films.

Rutherford Craze’s heavy and tightly spaced MD Nichrome Ultra is used for headlines. GT America Light Extended (Grilli Type) is used for all other text.

On hitting the credits button, the page content scrolls up, framed in a 1970s-style orange field with rounded corners, revealing a brief explanation about the website.
