Ruby is a Scottish electronic music act that was formed as a collaboration between singer Lesley Rankine and multi-instrumentalist Mark Walk in 1994. Rankine and Walk named the group Ruby after learning that this was the name of both their maternal grandmothers.

Alias Metsys was used for the logotype for a series of record sleeves around 2001, in a mix of upper and lower case. Adobe Garamond Italic is used for secondary type.

Three singles were released from the album Short-Staffed at the Gene Pool, “Lamplight”, “Grace”, and “Beefheart”. The covers all follow the same basic design template.

As well as using Alias Metsys as its logotype, for Issue 9 football magazine Soccerbible used Alias Ano for headline type, and Alias Cactus on the cover. Alias Union was used for text — not seen in these images.

Cover of the System 7 album 777. Like Altitude, the photograph – with all type and effects part of the photograph not added in post-production – was taken by Trevor Key and art directed by David James. The type is an early, custom version of Metsys. The back cover and booklet use Gerstner Original, a typeface with a similar fluid, techy and sci-fi quality.

A 12 inch single for ’90s soft-tech pioneers System 7, fronted by Steve Hillage, previously guitarist for Prog Rock band Gong. The front cover was photographed by Trevor Key. The System 7 Altitude type was part of the photograph, not added in post production.

The front cover lettering is a prototype version of Metsys, used with phototypeset Linotype DIN Mittelschrift, on which it was based.

Metsys Medium is used for the company’s logotype. Its technical, modular looking design suits the products. A variety of sans serif typefaces are used for secondary typography.

This Spanish cultural institution has used Metsys for its logo since 2004. Metsys is also used as display type for printed material including books, catalogues and show invitations. The sculptural shape of the B makes a very effective exhibition stand centrepiece.
