Designed by Rudolf Koch and issued by Stempel in breit, eng and schmal styles in 1923 (larger sizes also made in wood), followed by a schmalhalbfett in 1934. The schmal was adapted for the Linotype before 1929. [Wetzig 1926–40]
The schmal (narrow) has been revived by Dieter Steffmann and Ralph Unger (latter as Schmale Anzeigenfraktur, used for sample). Delbanco has the breit (wide), while Gerhard Helzel offers two weights, breit and schmal. Wittenbach (Scriptorium, 1993) and Fraktur Condensed Headline (Manfred Klein, 2005) appear to be interpretations of the eng.
