Page’s extra condensed wood type in the “French Antique” genre. First shown in James Conner’s Sons Typographic Messenger, Vol. 4, No. 4 (July, 1869). [RRK] Very similar to French Clarendon XXX Condensed, but without bracketing.
Digital revivals include MPI French Antique (mpressInteractive, 2013, used for sample), and French Antique ExtraCondensed (Wooden Type Fonts, Jordan Davies, 2006, incl. a lowercase and some shapes with different contrast (‘A’)). See also Cattle Drive JNL.
