Albert (solid) and Fat Albert
(outlined and shaded) are two all-caps film typefaces shown in
Lettergraphics’s catalog [Lettergraphics 1968–1975].
Fat Albert appears to be a copy of OP-Letter as drawn by Walter
Haettenschweiler and shown in Lettera 3 (1968). It’s distinguished by
harmonized letter heights, ‘H’ is more even, shadows in ‘C’, ‘F’,
‘R’ are different. Shown by Castcraft as Googie with
alias Fat Albert Square [Castcraft 1978] and as Zippy
in Moderne Alphabets (Dover, 1999). Not to be confused
with Fat
Albert (Schaedler).
Albert is different from Fat Albert in
some details: counters in ‘C G O’ and apertures in ‘F’ and ‘V’ are
bigger, ‘K’ and ‘W’ are more even, ‘Q’ tail crosses the counter,
